A Cup of Kindness for Blue Monday

January can feel a bit like trudging through the rain – cold, dreary and a little hard to get going. It’s why the third Monday of the month has earned the nickname Blue Monday, often called the “most depressing day of the year.”
This year let’s try something different. Brew Monday isn’t about the gloom – it’s about those finding small moments to lift us up and help us feel a bit brighter and more connected. It’s time to let the shoulders drop, take a breath, share a ‘yeah, I get it’ and watch as the world feels a little softer.
The truth is, we don’t need forced positivity or motivational quotes, especially when there are people who are genuinely struggling. So, this Monday:
- Take a few minutes to check in with someone. One cup. One conversation. One moment of warmth held in both hands.
- Suggest a walk with someone who’s been quieter than usual.
- Be honest yourself about how you’re doing, so others know it’s okay not to be firing on all cylinders right now.
It may seem like a small thing, but science backs it up. Happiness grows through small daily habits. Belonging and care are some of the strongest predictors of wellbeing.
It won’t solve everything. But it might be enough for now.
Here’s how some of the Bell Team find ways to lift a grey day.
