Our Bell Decorating Academy model has been introduced to solve a fundamental problem facing the painting and decorating industry today; skills shortages.
Skills shortages are not only having a negative impact on our industry, but the construction industry as a whole. As the leading UK painting and decorating contractor, we must attempt to resolve this issue and our academies we hope, are the solution.
The purpose of each academy is to support and enhance the learning and development of students whilst at college, making the transition from college to the workplace a smoother process. Students in our academies will benefit from work experience on live sites, bespoke masterclasses and workshop sessions delivered by Bell Group staff and trusted suppliers such as leading paint manufacturers Akzo Nobel, PPG and Crown Paints.
Masterclasses and workshops consist of industry led activities, for example; painting techniques, wallpapering, manufacturer led activities around products, materials and innovations and employability skills sessions such as CV writing, preparing for interviews and mock interviews. Students who progress through our decorating academies will be greater equipped to secure employment having been mentored through their studies, receiving supplementary support, and having been exposed to real life working environments.
Our objective is to ensure painting and decorating students are ‘industry ready’ and employable when they leave college.
Our company ethos is to promote from within, the majority of our management team have progressed through their careers within our business. We recognise that the best way to grow reliable and trustworthy employees is to develop and retain staff in house, and our academy model follows the same ethos.
To date eleven Bell Decorating Academies have launched and we aim to have an academy associated with each of our branches by 2020.
